Dr Doug MacMahon

Dr Doug MacMahon has been a Consultant Physician with special responsibility for the elderly with the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust for the past 30 years and has specialised in the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and other chronic neurological diseases. He has researched and written about most of the currently available drug treatments and service developments. His other interests include Dementia and Community Care. He was founder chairman of the PD special interest group of the British Geriatrics Society (BGS) (now Movement Disorders Section) Also, he has worked closely with the PD Society to develop the role of the specialist nurse and served on the nurse steering group and service development group. He is past chair of the BGS Policy Committee and was Medical Director of a Community Trust. He was a member of the NICE Clinical Guidelines Development Group for Parkinson’s disease and has written over 100 publications and 20 book chapters. He has made numerous presentations at many national and international meetings and is a member of several editorial boards. He has chaired the PD Academy Faculty Board since its inception and taught on every Academy.
